DRC: President Felix Tshisekedi asks Akéré Muna to join his task force to fight corruption

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is a growing investment destination to explore in the post-COVID-19 recovery plans, however, corruption and poor governance are key factors holding the country back. The current administration is embarking on building a success story with the right commitment to transparency and knowledge with the UNDP’s contribution.

Since he assumed office on January 24, 2019, after a long-awaited general election, President Félix Tshisekedi placed the fight against corruption initiative at the center of his term mission.

After appointing senior law officers and chief justices to fill top court positions to improve the effectiveness of the judiciary in the country in February 2020, President Félix Tshisekedi sought the services of the Cameroonian anti-corruption lawyer and opposition politician, Akéré Muna proposed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as a consultant on corruption and governance issues.

His move aims to strengthen accountability and transparency while also promoting the rule of law in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and successfully leading the fight against corruption, which was a campaign promise.

The Presidency announced Monday evening that the Cameroonian opponent and former candidate for the 2018 presidential election would accompany the anti-corruption agency as part of the DRC and UNDP collaborative program.

The latter hopes to achieve greater efficiency in his action, the implementation of international standards, and the establishment of good practices.
